The making of FIRST CONTACT

I spent most of October editing a short film called First Contact. The film was written and directed by Matt Richards for his Masters course in Directing Film and Television at the Victorian College of the Arts.

First Contact explores loneliness, fear, and the power of human connection. Matt's powerful script about a father and daughter's self-imposed remote existence won awards from Digital Pictures and the Margaret Laurence Social Justice Fund.

In addition, Stefan Rabe has created a wonderful blog, "First Contact: The Making Of", which I encourage you to take a look at. Stefan's videos give a great sense of the location at Lake Tyrell, especially episode 9 with all the wide angle shots.

Post production will be complete later this month, so look out for the film at festivals in 2012.

UPDATE: Matt has edited a trailer for the film. Check it out here.
